Have you ever thought about the challenges that your favorite brands face when designing a new product? When Spacex starts designing rockets, their first three attempts fail to reach Earth’s orbit, and they need to return to the drawing board several times to improve their build. As a middle school student, the problems you need to solve may not be difficult like launching a rocket, but how you approach the problem solving process will make it easier to solve problems for you. What does it relate to technology? Well, breaking a problem with small steps is the very basis of coding!
When you play a video game and jump to pick up a star and increase your mark, you probably don’t think about the code that makes everything possible. Your job is to press the buttons to make your character win! The code runs in the background, and depending on what you do with your controller, you will see different outputs on the screen. Sometimes you get a star, and sometimes you can’t. The various outcomes are all thanks to coding algorithms. We will review some of the different ways that can write the code, then we dive to create a character on our own!
Most of us are “content creators” of some kind – maybe we share updates with our friends and family on social media, or we can even run a small business from our home. Worldwide, people of all ages create content, so it’s important to know the rules that manage what can be done and can’t do when we are online or using technology.
