Artificial intelligence adoption in physical science, science, life sciences, social science and art and humanities: a bibliometric analysis of research publications from 1960-2021
Analyzing the historical models of artificial intelligence (AI) adoption reveals the AI ability, but to this day research has provided a limited perspective on AI adoption in different fields of research. In this study, we will consider receiving AI technology worldwide within 333 research fields in 1960-2021.
We do this by using bibliometric analysis with 137 million peer-related publications seized in the lens database. We define AI using a list of 214 sentences developed by expert work groups in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). We have found that throughout the period of 137 million peer research publications we have found that 3.1 million are relevant, in recent years with the adoption of AI in virtually all research fields (physics, natural science, social science, social and humanity) in recent years.
At the beginning of the extension of AI beyond computer science, it is fast and widespread. In 1960, 14% of the 333 research sectors were related to AI (most of the computer science), but in 1972 more than half of all research sectors were more than 80% of the current and 98% during this period. We have noticed that AI has historically experienced boom-bust wheels; AI “Springs” and “Winters”.
